Community group meeting to connect dots on integrated health care
Coordination of care after a hospital stay, outpatient surgery or during a complex illness is a challenge many aging adults face when they don’t feel well and live alone. “The challenge for us as a community is to connect the dots in our fragmented healthcare system,” said Debbie Caneen, president of the South Shore Coalition for Mental Health and Aging. “Our goal is to provide resources to help these seniors fill the gaps and reduce hospital readmissions or avoid developing complications because they have no one to ensure they get proper follow-up care.”

Francis Donald Hodge, 1937-2024
Francis Donald Hodge of Frostproof, Florida passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at his residence. He was born August 18, 1937 in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania to the late Julia Hodge; he has been a resident of the area since 1984. Don loved to fish, work on cars, sing karaoke, and tell jokes. He enjoyed playing cards, especially poker, and having coffee with his friends and family.
Durant Cougars 2024 Football
Following success in a historic postseason run last year, the Durant Cougars, under the leadership of head coach Claybo Varnum, will begin their season ranked No. 15 in division 6A. Varnum, a Durant football alum, has been at the helm of the program since the 2021 season. Before that, he was an assistant coach for the program. He has flourished in the role, leading the Cougars to their first postseason win since 2012.

Caroline Ballou Eden, 93
Caroline (Cay) Ballou Eden, of Washington, D.C., Lake Wales, Fla. and Edgartown, died peacefully on July 17 in Greenwich, Conn. She was 93. Cay was born in Providence, R.I. on February 27, 1931 and attended the Wheeler School (Providence, R.I.), Emma Willard School (Troy, N.Y.) and Vassar College (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in education with a Minor in art.
