There’s a buzz surrounding the new building atop the hill at Huset’s Speedway.

“Just having everything on the same complex, with the race shop, the offices, and everything right here in close proximity,” Huset’s Speedway General Manager Doug Johnson said.

General Manager Doug Johnson says staff won’t move in until after the season, but David Gravel and the Big Game Motorsports crew are making themselves at home.

“The race team, they’ve been working out of here before they headed east here a week or so ago, and they’ve got most of their stuff ready to go,” Johnson said.

The lobby will eventually be open to the public.

“We want to make sure everything’s finished before we let anybody else in here and kind of give tours,” Johnson said.

And it will be worth the wait.

“Where we’re standing here is obviously a showroom, we’ve got two show cars in here and a lot of the trophies from Tod’s wins and stuff over the years will be displayed in here over time as well,” Johnson said.

Elsewhere on the property, Huset’s is set to host four days of racing this week, with the 14th annual Silver Dollar Nationals.

“Saturday night, we pay $53,000 to the winner. That’s one of the probably top five prizes in the country for those guys that they race for all year long,” Johnson said.

“I actually have a friend who lives in northern Illinois and he’s a racing fan and loves the Late Models and so they’re driving out from Illinois,” Brandon Mayor Harry Buck said.

Harry Buck is the mayor of Brandon and says events like the Silver Dollar Nationals touch every part of the city.

“The restaurants and the gas stations and things, convenience stores, they all feel great about it, it’s a wonderful thing,” Buck said. “Some of the traffic passes through and doesn’t stop, but a lot of it stops,” Buck added.

The green flag drops Wednesday night.

The action starts Wednesday night with the Tri-State Late Models at Huset’s Speedway , and continues Thursday, Friday, and Saturday with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.
