An 89-year-old man died following a three-vehicle wreck Monday afternoon in Brandywine Hundred.

The man's name is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified, Delaware State Police said Tuesday.

The man was driving a 2008 Toyota Camry east in the 1000 block of Wilson Road about 3:50 p.m. when police said he failed to remain on the road and entered the right shoulder, where his car hit a mailbox.

The man then swerved back onto the roadway, crossing the solid double-yellow line and into the path of a westbound 2011 Mercedes S550.

The two cars crashed, sending the Mercedes rotating until it hit an occupied 2002 Buick LeSabre parked on the shoulder.

The Toyota driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Mercedes driver, a 62-year-old Wilmington-area man, was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The Buick's occupant, a 65-year-old Wilmington-area woman, was not injured.
