A Springfield man armed with knives attacked a recent Cabool graduate early Monday morning at a Branson go-kart business.

At approximately 12:05 a.m., a group of graduates were approached by Michael E. Gardner, 37 of Springfield, who attacked, and stabbed, one of the graduates and threatened the others. The attacked graduate managed to escape the attacker and flee the scene, school officials said.

The graduate was taken by ambulance to a Branson hospital. The graduate received moderate injuries and has since been released from the hospital.

“The graduate who was attacked is in good spirits and will be meeting with specialists for follow up care,” said school officials.

All other graduates – safely accounted for – left the event early and canceled all remaining events. Attending graduates will be provided passes to return to any The Track location in Branson for a day at their convenience.

Gardner sprayed another individual at the facility in the face with an irritant. Branson officers were able to find him, but he refused to cooperate, so officers deployed tasers and arrested him. He is charged with first-degree assault, third-degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon.
