    Flooding in Branson leaving roads impassable

    BRANSON, Mo. – Torrential rain Wednesday morning is leaving many roads impassable for the early commute. The National Weather Service is reporting some streams in the Branson area rose around one foot every five minutes.

    MoDot.org is reporting a road closure on the eastbound lane of MO-76. This is the area that runs along Lake Taneycomo and intersects with the Lake Taneycomo bridge. MoDot crews are conducting emergency roadwork as part of the ground and guardrail have started to slide down the banks of the lake.

    Justin Tinder, with the NWS-Springfield office put out a message early Wednesday, “Considerable flood threat over western Taney County, including Branson area. Radar estimates 2-5 inches of rain so far, with 2-3 inches of that in the last hour. Rainfall rates up to 1-3 inches per hour.”

    Roark Valley Road is Branson has been shut down. Taney County SkyWarn is reporting around 3′ of water covering Briar Cliff Dr. Highway 248 has water 6-8″ deep.

    Heavy rain in Taney County will continue throughout the morning hours. Taney County has been placed under a flash flood warning until 12:15 p.m.
