Diesel Fuel Spill Near Redmond Circle and Garden Lakes Boulevard
Rome police are asking that motorists avoid the area near the intersection of Redmond Circle and Garden Lakes Boulevard after a wreck between an RV and a dump truck spilled approximately 90 gallons of diesel fuel on the roadway around 10 a.m. on Friday. As of 3:45 p.m. those at the scene estimated the cleanup could continue into Friday afternoon. "We will stay on the scene and in command until all cleanup efforts are complete," Rome Police Department Public Information Officer Kelly Madden said. The Georgia Department of Transportation and Carter's Environmental were called to help clean up the scene and the Rome Fire Department is also assisting the police department.

Teens accused of damaging school bus
Thursday, July 25, 2024–11:06 a.m. Two Garden Lakes teens have been arrested in connection with damage caused to a Floyd County School bus that occurred back on May 18. 19-year-old Nassir Sumeek Rashid Mohammed Ghani and 19-year-old Deontre Javarius Smith entered two buses while they were parked at Garden Lakes Elementary School, cutting a seat on one of the buses and activating a fire extinguisher which caused extensive damage to the interior of the bus.
Cartersville Home Receives Major Fire Damage
7/23/2024 – At approximately 11:40 a.m. Bartow County Fire & Emergency Services were dispatched to 118 Linda Road S.W, Cartersville to a report of a residential structure fire. The caller advised that the living room was on fire, and everyone was out. BCFES crews arrived on scene to find a one-story, single-family home with fire showing from the front of the structure. Once crews were able to extinguish the fire, a fire investigator was called to the scene. The cause of the fire was deemed accidental. The home received major damage and there were no injuries to report.
