    EPA opens public comment period on air quality for Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind Project

    Supporters and opponents of the Atlantic Shores Offshore Wind Project have until Aug. 13 to comment on their views of the wind energy program’s effect on air quality.

    The Atlantic Shores project will include as many as 200 offshore wind turbines, as many as 17 small-to-large substations to collect electricity produced, and underground cables to transport the energy to substations on the mainland.

    According to the EPA’s analysis, the project meets all applicable Clean Air Act requirements.

    The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has extended its request for written comments on its Outer Continental Shelf Air Permit. Written comments on the permit may be submitted by email to jon.frank@epa.gov .

    The EPA will also hold a virtual public hearing from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 12 for the public to submit oral comments. It will not be an information session and EPA officials will not be answering questions.

    The EPA recommends commenters review documents and information posted on the EPA website .

    Participants must register in advance to receive the Zoom meeting link.
