File photo By Mike Williams news@breckenridgeamerican.com While practice does not officially start until later this summer for Breckenridge ISD, several athletes have begun to participate in summer conditioning programs.  Before looking ahead to the upcoming seasons, the Breckenridge American will look back at how Breckenridge High School teams fared in the 2023-2024 school year. BHS had a successful season on the cross country course. The season officially started Aug. 19, 2023 at Jim Ned’s Warpath Invitational. Chance Stewart led the way for the Buckaroos with his seventh place finish and a time of 17:16.93. Ruthie Valdez led the Lady Bucks with a 30th overall finish at 14:00.81. The Bucks finished third while the Lady Bucks finished sixth overall Aug. 30, 2023 at the Brownwood Invitational. Stewart and Valdez led their respective teams again. Valdez finished 27th overall with a time of 13:48.61. In the boys’ race, Stewart finished fourth overall with a time of 17:11.03. At the Hico Invitational, the Bucks took second overall in the meet and the Lady Bucks finished seventh overall. Stewart picked up a race win and finished in 17:15.90. Jenna Stewart led the Lady Bucks and finished 25th overall at 14:43.17. The Buckaroos had three runners earn medals at the Lipan Invitational. Chance Stewart, Adrian Saucedo and Andrew White earned medals in the boys’ race for finishing inside the top 20. Chance Stewart led the Bucks with a sixth place finish and a time of 16:34.35. Valdez was the top Lady Bucks runner with a 21st place finish at 12:55.37. At the Dublin Dash Invite, the Bucks finished second over and the Lady Bucks took first place. Jenna Stewart, Valdez, Kassidy Whittaker and Karsyn Smalley all earned medals in the girls’ race. Jenna Stewart led the Lady Bucks with her 10th place finish at 14:21.55. White, Adrian Saucedo, Gabriel Garcia, Erik Saucedo and Nathan Oxte each earned medals for the Buckaroos. White led the Bucks with a fifth place finish at 18:08.62. Stephenville hosted the final regular season meet. The Bucks finished third overall while the Lady Bucks finished 12th at the Thrill of the Hill Invitational. Chance Stewart led the Bucks with his third place finish at 18:39.21; Valdez led the Lady Bucks with her 30th place finish at 14:50.72. The district meet took place Oct. 11, 2023 at Dublin. The Buckaroos earned a trip to the 3A Region I Championships with a second place finish. Chance Stewart led the Bucks with a fifth place finish at 16:48.36. Valdez earned her spot in the region meet as an individual runner after finishing eighth overall at 13:35.85. The region meet took place Oct. 23, 2023 a in Lubbock. As a team, the Bucks finished 10th overall. Chance Stewart led the Bucks with his 15th overall finish at 17:27.80. He earned a trip to the state meet as a top-10 individual finishers among the non-state qualifying teams. Valdez finished the girls’ race in 145th place with a time of 15:26.00. Chance Stewart competed in the Cross Country State Championships Nov. 3, 2023 in Round Rock. He finished the 5,000-meter course at Old Settlers Park with a time of 17:24.40 with a finish was good enough for 55th overall in the meet. Sports Log in to post comments
