County enacts burn ban News Staff Tue, 06/25/2024 - 4:47 pm By Mike Williams news@breckenridgeamerican.com With several hot and dry days on their way, the Stephens County Commissioners Court voted to enact a burn ban. Approved during their Monday, June 24 meeting, outdoor burning in the unincorporated areas of Stephens County began immediately and will last until Monday, Sept. 23 unless terminated earlier. According to the county, the decision was made with the advice of the Stephens County Fire Marshal, Breckenridge Fire Department Chief, and the chiefs of the rural volunteer fire departments. The order does not prohibit burning activities authorized by the Texas Commissioner on Environmental Quality or burns conducted by a certified board member under the Natural Resources Code. The ban may be rescinded after a determination that the circumstances that required the ban no longer exist. A ban violation is punishable by a fine of up to $500. News
