BREESE, Ill — For the second time in 13 months, Comprehensive Care Pharmacy in Breese, Illinois, is recovering from a break-in.  Images of three suspects were captured on the store’s surveillance video early Wednesday morning.

“They were here for just a few minutes, couldn’t get anything, and were in and out,” said store owner Samantha Timmermann Dryer.

Surveillance images show the suspects with covered faces trying to break open a safe.  Eventually, they gave up and left.  Last year’s break-in attempt was also a failure on the part of the suspects.

“Our security, our videos, and our safe did the job,” Timmermann Dryer said.

Several independent pharmacies were also broken into early Tuesday morning.

“To see quite a few of us go through the same situations in such a short time period, it’s a lot,” said Harry Zollars, owner of Maryville Pharmacy. “It’s hard.”

His store in Maryville was hit Tuesday morning at approximately 3:15 a.m.  His surveillance cameras captured images of the three suspects pulling up in a blue sedan and using a crowbar to break into the store.

Zollars and other owners said the crimes are devastating, especially for independent pharmacy owners and their employees.

“All they want to do is support their community,” Zollars said.

Bruce Brueggemann is one of the owners of WellCreek Pharmacy in Bethalto.  The store’s surveillance cameras captured images of three suspects entering his parking lot around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Bethalto police are investigating and report that at least three subjects wearing dark clothing with masks were involved.

“If you have cameras and you see things that aren’t right, report it to the local authorities,” said Brueggemann.

A pharmacy owner in the Affton area tells FOX 2 that they were also targeted early Tuesday morning and have surveillance images of the break-in.  St. Louis County Police are investigating that case.

Maryville Police Chief Tony Manley said his department is working with several other local police departments that have recently faced similar types of crimes.  He said the investigation is ongoing and the department encourages anyone with information to contact Det. Justin Krausz at 618-344-8899.

Timmermann Dryer said independent pharmacies are already battling shrinking insurance reimbursements and rising health care costs.

“Independent pharmacies are going to battle every single day,” she said.
