Great New York State Fair concerts announced
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Great New York State Fair will be here soon, and there will be no shortage of concerts for people meandering around the state fairgrounds in Syracuse. You'll hear music ranging from oldies to modern pop, from rock to hip-hop, and from country to Christian, to name just a few genres. There will also be some comedy acts taking the stage.
Almond Street Closes Through July 23rd
A section of Almond Street under the I-81 viaduct will close for about two weeks starting Monday to facilitate preliminary utility work for the highway project. Detours will be posted for traffic in both directions between Van Buren and Taylor streets. The closure will affect those who use Almond Street to get to the VA Medical Center, SUNY ESF, Syracuse University, and Toomey Abbott Towers. Work is expected to be completed by July 23rd.
Former funeral home gets a new use on Syracuse’s North Side
Syracuse, N.Y. -- Cooperative Federal Credit Union plans to turn a former North Side funeral home into a branch office. The credit union plans to move its office at 800 N. Salina St. to the former Frasier-Shepardson Funeral Home at 1217 N. Salina St., according to plans filed with the city.

Marcellus students attend FFA convention
Marcellus FFA recently had 16 members attend the 99th New York State FFA Convention in Buffalo. High school and middle school members joined over 2,000 FFA members from around New York State to compete in areas of maple production, agriculture sales, veterinary science, forestry and food science. Besides competing, our FFA members had the opportunity to participate in a number of tours, including Niagara Power Vista, Lactalis Cheese, and Upstate Dairy Cooperative. On the trip there, FFA members were also able to tour Oxbo, a leading international producer of specialized agriculture machinery. Throughout the convention, students developed leadership skills and learned about the extensive and diverse career opportunities in the world of agriculture.
