As board members were looking over the personnel recommendations, District 3 Board Member Mike Edwards asked why Spottswood wasn’t being moved to the assistant principal’s slot at ECMS.

“She should’ve been moved to principal,” Edwards said.

Layton Knight was approved as the probationary principal at ECMS on June 3, and is effective from July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2026.

Edwards accused the board for dismantling efforts that were put in place over the last few years.

Edwards said the board is looking to replace former Superintendent Michele McClung’s staff.

“This school district wants to go back to mediocrity,” he said.

Edwards said Spottswood was an essential part of the school system.

A back and forth between Edwards and District 4 Board Member Cindy Jackson proceeded on how it was known that Spottswood was going to be named the assistant principal at ECMS.

Board President Loumeek White reminded the board that they had ample time to look over the agenda, and to present questions if needed.

“We have to support our decisions as they are very important,” White said.

“I resent you telling me what to look at as a member of this board,” District 7 Board Member Coleman Wallace then said.

“If you get an agenda, pay attention to it,” White said.

Once the discussion ended, board members approved the recommendations with Edwards not voting.
