The move showcases support for the longtime assistant who assumes the throne after veteran coach Kyle Whittingham decides to step away. Scalley has been with the Utes since 2007, getting his feet wet as a graduate assistant before becoming a full-time member on Whittingham's staff the following year. From Utah's leap to the Pac-12 to now becoming a member of the Big 12 Conference, Scalley has been around for several program firsts under the tutelage of Whittingham.
