The 2024 Paris Olympics just came to a close with a number of great triumphs occurring. From Simone Biles making a comeback and winning four medals to basketball star Stephen Curry finally winning an Olympic gold medal, these athletes found success in their sport and events.

Competitors of the 2024 Olympic games came from all over the world, including the Commonwealth state of Massachusetts. Prior to the Paris Olympics, Massachusetts ranked in 21st in gold medals by state, tied with Arkansas and Virginia. A total of 20 athletes this year came from Massachusetts and competed in 14 different sporting categories (This is without even counting three members of the Boston Celtics who competed). Here's how they did at this year's games:

    Stephen Nedoroscik and Frederick Richard

Nedoroscik is from Worcester and Richard is from Stoughton. Both of these men were part of the Team USA men's gymnastics team. As part of the team, they won bronze in the team event.

Nedoroscik in particular became one of the breakout stars of the entire Olympic games. He became known online as the "pommel horse guy" and ended up winning another bronze medal for his routine.

    Kristi Kirsche

Kirsche (of Franklin) helped Team USA win its first medal in women's rugby sevens. Kirshe and the other women won the bronze medal after the game-winning try scored just as time expired.

    Ruby Remati

Remati is from Andover and won a silver medal in the team acrobatic routine event as part of Team USA.

    Gabby Thomas

Thomas is not only a native of Northampton, Massachusetts but she also graduated from Harvard University. She ended up winning three gold medals at the games. Thomas competed in track and won the women’s 200-meter sprint, the women’s 4×100 meter relay, and the women’s 4×400 meter relay.

And of course, the three members of the Boston Celtics brought home gold. They were part of the United States men's basketball team that defeated host nation France to win.

Additionally, multiple Harvard alums won medals at the games. In addition to the aforementioned Thomas, those were Kristin Faulkner, Lauren Scruggs, Liam Corrigan, Clark Dean and Peter Quinton.

The 2024 Paris Olympic Games took place from July 26th to August 11th, 2024.
