County supports extension as transitional housing project drags on
At its Monday morning meeting, the Barron County Board of Supervisors approved an extension request by Ken Tregellas, business administrator of the Salvation Army, which has been in the process of developing transitional housing in a former nursing home west of Barron on Highway TT since fall 2021. Isabella Lyste crowned 2024 Barron County Fairest of the Fair
Isabella Lyste of Barron was crowned the 2024 Barron County Fairest of the Fair on Sunday afternoon as one of the concluding events of the five-day fair. Named first runner-up was Alexus Olson of Rice Lake, and crowned the first-ever Junior Fairest of the Fair was Cadence Holten of Hillsdale. Judges of this year’s event were Karen Germanson, Heidi Small and Doris Laursen. Fairest co-coordinators are Devon Lauren and Sarah Doyen. The program included introductions by all three candidates, a farewell from outgoing Fairest Elora Repman and a hello from visiting Wisconsin Fairest of the Fair Kelsey Henderson of Racine County. Fair Board President Russell Rindsig awarded the outgoing fairest her framed portrait as fairest and a share of stock in the Barron County Fair.

In-person absentee voting has begun for the Aug. 13 Primary Election even as the nominee for president of the United States on the Democratic ticket has been cast into question. Noesen to show scenes of 'Old Barron' at Genealogical Society
The Blue Hills Genealogical Society meets Thursday, Aug. 1, at 3 p.m. at the Barron Senior Center, 12 N. Third St., when Ken Noesen will show slides of "Old Barron." The meeting is free and open to the public. The society promotes family history and preserves genealogy from the Barron County area. They maintain a Resource Library at 410 E. LaSalle Ave., Suite C., Barron where interested people may do research by contacting Rosella Amundson for an appointment at 715-537-5760. Those with donations of family histories or other genealogy materials should contact Gloria Dobberfuhl at 715-637-5579. The group also sponsors a Pioneer and Century Certificate program for those who had ancestors that lived in Barron County by 1871 or 100 years ago.
