One person died in an apparent domestic violence incident in Beltrami County early Monday morning, according to authorities. A suspect is in custody.

In a news release, the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office said law enforcement responded to a “domestic violence call” just after 4:30 a.m. after receiving a 911 call regarding a disturbance outside of a residence in Ten Lake Township.

The sheriff’s office said “the domestic disturbance continued” when Leech Lake police officers arrived and one person was found to be “unresponsive and not breathing.”

Live-saving efforts were initiated, but the individual was ultimately pronounced dead after being taken by ambulance to the Cass Lake Indian Health Service hospital. An autopsy will be conducted by the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the incident. The suspect is jailed at the Beltrami County Correctional Facility awaiting formal charges.

“The identity of the subjects involved in this incident are not being released at this time,” the agency stated Monday afternoon. “Law enforcement does not believe there is a threat to the public resulting from this incident.”

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office and Leech Lake Police Department with the investigation.
