More than 3,500 still without power as another storm looms in Minnesota

More than 3,500 households are still without electricity in the Twin Cities after severe storms on Monday and Tuesday.

Xcel Energy's outage map shows 3,747 customers remain without power as of 6 a.m. Thursday, though the majority of the 150,000 who had lost power as of Tuesday morning have had it restored.

The utility had warned that some households could face outages that continued through Thursday evening.

Further problems could be presented by another potentially severe storm system that is expected to arrive in the Twin Cities between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., which could bring more strong winds and heavy rain.

In total, around 250,000 homes lost power when the storms of Monday evening and Tuesday morning are combined, with two rounds of severe wind hitting the metro area.

The City of Minneapolis confirmed at least 100 reports of downed power lines and felled trees following the storms, sparking a cleanup effort since then.

Minneapolis Public Works says its priorities have been to clear roads to provide access for first responders, ensure the stormwater system is working, fix traffic control systems, and replace blown-down signs.

The city says those still without power should continue to keep their fridges and freezers closed, and to check on their neighbors, particularly seniors, those with children, and those with disabilities.
