Customers had to flee an Old Navy in Eagan on Monday after pepper spray was released inside the store by a shopper.

Eagan Police Department says it was called to the Twin Cities Premium Outlets mall just after 6 p.m. after a woman used pepper spray towards a person they knew in the entryway to Old Navy and then fled the area.

The incident began earlier with a verbal altercation in the outlet mall, according to police.

Several customers were checked out and cleared by M Health for exposure to pepper spray. There have been no reported injuries regarding the incident, and the store opened as normal on Tuesday.

Authorities say assault charges will be pursued against the suspect, who police have identified but not publicly named.

Details of what sparked the altercation have not yet been provided.

Note: The details provided in this story are based on law enforcement’s latest version of events, and may be subject to change.
