St. Louis River Alliance Clearing Way for Endangered Piping Plovers
SUPERIOR, Wisc. — Volunteers and workers from the St. Louis River Alliance teamed up to remove debris from the Piping Plover habitat on Wisconsin Point. The sun was beating down on the sand along Wisconsin Point, but that didn’t deter the crew working to clear the Piping Plover Site. They chopped and burned logs and wooden debris that washed ashore, making way for the small shorebirds. According to project leader Mikayla Erickson, safely removing excess debris will allow to piping plovers to forage for beetles, worms, and crustaceans.
Charges: Suspect Stabbed Stranger In Downtown Duluth Over Drugs
DULUTH, Minn. — Court documents have revealed a man who was stabbed in the neck in downtown Duluth did not know the suspect, according to the victim. The suspect, Jake Pyrlik, 30, of Duluth, is accused of slashing the throat of Bryce Brim, 29, because Brim would not share drugs with him, according to the criminal complaint.

Duluth, Minn. - The St. Louis County Historical Society is opening a new exhibit on historic photographs of Duluth. “The Views of Duluth” is a free exhibit that features copies of Hugh McKenzie’s photographs and other notable Duluth photographers whose work highlights the establishments and architecture of the 1900s. From quiet streets and scenic overlooks to grand theaters and exciting recreation events, “The Views of Duluth” is located on the fourth-floor gallery above the Great Hall of the Duluth Depot at 506 W Michigan St. The Depot is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The exhibit will be open through August 31.

UMD alumni Curtis Cox receives Allstate AFCA Good Works Team nomination
UMD alumni Curtis Cox has been named a 2024 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team nominee. Cox received his nomination for a bone marrow donation. In the spring of 2023, Cox participated in UMD’s Be the Match program, where he discovered he had matched with a two-year-old boy. Cox was flown out to Washington D.C. where he underwent the bone marrow extraction, and the next day, the two-year-old received the infusion.
