Certain invasive blood-suckers have now raised concerns again in the Tri-States, with the Asian Tiger Mosquito being reported in both Iowa and Illinois, and now West Nile virus-infected mosquitos have been confirmed in Ames. Did you know there have already been several cases of mosquito-borne illnesses across the Tri-States reported in 2024?
Editorial: Gov. J.B. Pritzker won’t bail out Brandon Johnson, the Chicago Teachers Union and Chicago Public Schools. Good.
Gov. J.B. Pritzker won’t confirm or deny his place in the vice presidential vetting stakes. But there’s no mistaking the blunt message he recently delivered to Mayor Brandon Johnson and the Chicago Teachers Union: No, the state of Illinois doesn’t “owe” Chicago Public Schools $1.1 billion. Pritzker called the bluff on Johnson and his CTU friends. Parent J.B. isn’t coming to the rescue. The ...

Pet adoptions are booming in Illinois, but the animals being grabbed up are mostly dogs and cats with very few lions, tigers, or ocelots being part of the mix. New Illinois Law Requires Weather Radios In Certain Homes
It's been a rough tornado season and a new Illinois law is taking aim at that. We can all agree it's been a messy summer. In the Chicago area alone last week, there were 33 tornadoes, compared to their usual 5 or 6 per year. With the derecho that moved through last week, 5 tornadoes rolled through the QCA. In Iowa, May was ridiculous. We average 11 tornadoes in May. But this year, we had over 80 tornadoes in May alone.
Rare black bear sightings spark excitement in southern Illinois
CARBONDALE (Capitol News Illinois) - Amid this heated political season, residents in southern Illinois have found a unifying pastime: spotting black bears. “I love the dichotomy right now on my FB (Facebook) feeds. On one hand, major political drama. On the other, this bear is just doing bear things, just wandering around SIL (southern Illinois),” wrote Jessica Bradshaw, a Carbondale resident, echoing the sentiment of many social media posts shared across the region this week in response to numerous black bear sightings.
