    Best swimming spots in the Brockton area: Opening dates, entry fees and more

    BROCKTON — June 20 marked the official start of summer and for Brockton-area residents, that means more hot, humid days are on the horizon.

    Luckily, many nearby towns provide access to numerous public swimming pools and splash pads that give residents the perfect way to beat the heat without breaking the bank.

    Whether you want to swim laps, play in a splash pad, wade in the shallows or lounge in the sunshine, here are the top places to cool off in the Brockton area this summer.

    Ames Long Pond (Stoughton)

    Complete with a sandy beachfront and dock, Ames Long Pond’s swimming program will open for the season on June 28. Lifeguards will be on duty to supervise swimmers from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Public bathrooms are also available. Daily entrance fee for Stoughton residents is $3 for children and $5 for adults, but non-residents can also swim for a few dollars extra. Season passes for children, adults and families are also available at a discounted rate.

    Easton Town Pool (Easton)

    This year, the Easton Town Pool, which will open for the season on July 1, will be doubling its operating hours. This sandy-bottomed pool will be open every day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., but lifeguards will only be on duty Friday to Sunday. The daily entrance fee is $5 per person and $20 max per family. Children under three years old are free. Season passes for senior citizens, individuals and families are also available from July 1 to Aug. 16.

    Hopewell Pool (Taunton)

    Opening for the summer on June 26, Hopewell Pool is open from 1:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday, 1:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Admission for children five years old and under is free, $3 for children and teens ages six to 17 enrolled in Taunton Public Schools and $5 for Taunton residents ages 18 and above. An original photo ID or proof of residency is required to receive the resident rate. Admission for non-residents is $8 for children and $12 for adults ages 18 and over.

    Imagination Station (Holbrook/Randolph)

    Imagination Station is a free splash pad located in one of Randolph's largest community playgrounds. The splash pad provides six-button activated ground-level sprinklers and a large flower-head spray. Parking is shared with Zapustas Ice Rink.

    128 Pleasant St., Holbrook, open to the public

    Island Grove Park (Abington)

    This sandy-bottomed pool is located within Island Grove Park, which is often referred to by locals as the crown jewel of Abington. The pool contains one-million-gallons of fresh water, which flows out into a 35-acre lake. The pool season runs from late June to late August. Daily passes and seasonal memberships are available for both residents and non-residents.

    Manning Pool (Brockton)

    One of two public pools in Brockton, the Manning Pool is set to open June 28 and is open to the public from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. daily. An entry fee of $5 is required, however entry for children ages five and below and adults over 65 is only $2. The facility offers a playground, shaded seating, a spray deck, restrooms and parking.

    Nelson Memorial Park (Plymouth)

    The Nelson Memorial Playground and Splash Pad comes with a view! Overlooking Plymouth Harbor, the splash pad is open seasonally from dawn to dusk. A playground, sandy beach, large grassy area and paved walking trails are located within the same park.

    255 Water St., Plymouth, open to the public

    Pierce Playground Pool (Middleboro)

    Located within Pierce Playground, Middleboro’s town pool will open for the season on July 1. Open daily from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., admission to the pool is $3 for children and $5 for adults. Family season passes are also available.

    26 Jackson St., Middleboro, open to the public

    Watson Pond State Park (Taunton)

    This 10-acre park offers swimming, fishing, canoeing and kayaking with access to beachfront picnic areas and a playground. Watson Pond State Park is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily until Oct. 9. On-site parking is available for $8 for Massachusetts residents and $30 for non-residents.

    1644 Bay St., Taunton, open to the public

    Weir Riverfront Park (Taunton)

    The splashpad at Weird Riverfront Park is open for the season! It's one of the largest municipal splash pads in the state, with 24 different spray zones, a toddler water table and a cascading bucket water drop, according to the mayor’s office. The facility is free and open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

    33 East Water St., Taunton, open to the public

    Whitman Town Pool (Whitman)

    Whitman Town Pool is open weekends from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and weekdays from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. beginning June 22. Day passes are $5 per person and $25 for a family of six. Season passes are also available for Whitman and Hanson residents.

    YMCA (Brockton, East Bridgewater, Easton, Middleboro, Plymouth, Stoughton, Taunton)

    The Brockton, East Bridgewater, Easton, Middleboro, Plymouth, Stoughton and Taunton branches of the YMCA all offer open swim times for adults and children with memberships. Youth swim lessons are also offered for an additional cost of $59 for members and $89 for non-members.

    Cosgrove Pool (Brockton)

    The new-look Cosgrove Pool, a totally remolded version of Brockton’s East Side public pool, is still on-track to open this summer. The new facility will have a splash pad, wading area and lap lanes with access to bathrooms, showers and shade structures. The Parks and Recreation department says July 8 is the target date for reopening.
