    Brockton-area Fourth of July events: Parades, carnivals, fireworks and more

    BROCKTON − The Fourth of July is the anniversary of the declaration of our independence from Great Britain in 1776. Today, the federal holiday gives citizens an opportunity to celebrate our nation's birthday.

    The Fourth of July has become a day for parades, celebrations, barbecues and fireworks exploding across the sky.

    Fourth of July festivities kick off on Saturday, June 29, with Halifax's Fireworks Celebration 2024. A variety of activities will be available during the event, such as a DJ, food vendors, face painting and more.

    The Bridgewater Music and Art Festival will be held on Thursday, July 4, on The Quad at Boyden Hall at Bridgewater State University, at 131 Summer St

    The Middleboro Park Department will host its annual carnival from July 3 to July 7, at Pierce Playground, 26 Jackson St.

    Here’s a list of local parades, fireworks and other events to celebrate Independence Day in the Brockton area.

    BRIDGEWATER

    The Music and Art Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, July 4, on The Quad at Boyden Hall at Bridgewater State University, at 131 Summer St. The event will include live music, children's events, and other family-centered entertainment, over 30 crafters and artisans selling their handmade and unique wares, The event is handicapped accessible with rest rooms inside Boyden Hall. Admission is free. Some events are free or charge a small fee. Visit bridgewater4th.com for a list of performances.

    HALIFAX

    Halifax's Fireworks Celebration 2024 will be held Saturday, June 29, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. behind the Halifax Elementary School, 464 Plymouth St. A variety of activities will be available during the event, such as a DJ, food vendors, face painting, and more. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Pack a picnic for dinner or visit one of the food vendors, which will include Loco Larry's, South Shore Smokehouse, Dean's Concessions, Teddy's Dawgs,Smiles by the Mile Ice Cream Novelties and Lolly Jolly. In the event of inclement weather, the fireworks display will be rescheduled to Sunday, June 30. For information, visit its Facebook page www.facebook.com/HalifaxFireworks/

    MIDDLEBORO

    The Middleboro Park Department will host its annual carnival from Wednesday, July 3, to Sunday, July 7, at Pierce Playground, 26 Jackson St. Fireworks will be held Friday, July 5, at 10 p.m. For carnival hours, ticket prices, wristband dates, and other information, visit www.middleboroughma.gov/243/Parks-Recreation.

    PLYMOUTH

    Plymouth 4th of July parade kicks off at 9 a.m. Thursday, July 4, from Cordage Park, 10 Cordage Park Circle. Food trucks will be available at Alden Park. Novelty items as well as popcorn and cotton candy will be available throughout the day and evening from the roaming vendors.

    Plymouth Philharmonic will perform at 7:30 p.m. at DCR Pilgrim Memorial State Park. Arrive at least one hour before the concert begins in order to find a parking spot and walk to the state park.

    Fireworks will be held at9 p.m./dusk at DCR Pilgrim Memorial State Park. There are several viewing spots available throughout town in addition to DCR Pilgrim Memorial State Park, including Burial Hill, Stephens Field and Nelson Park. Rain date will be July 13 at 9:15 p.m. There is no shuttle service available for the parade, concert or fireworks. Visit july4plymouth.com.

    RANDOLPH

    The 2024 Night Before the Fourth Parade will be held Wednesday, July 3, kicking off at 7 p.m. The parade route will start at Higashi School and travel along North Main Street into Crawford Square. The parade will include bands, performers, community groups and food trucks. Fireworks will start at approximately 9 p.m. at the Randolph High School field. Visit www.randolphicc.com/parade.

    STOUGHTON

    Fourth of July fireworks will take place at approximately 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, at Stoughton High School. The high school soccer field and the Dreist Field (next to middle school) will be open for viewing the fireworks. The following areas will be closed during the fireworks: SHS football field, tennis courts, and the Dennison/West Athletic Complex. No chairs on the soccer field.

    The parade will step off at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 4, at the Stoughton High School/Middle school. The parade will proceed on Pearl Street through the center of town, ending at the corner of Park and Prospect streets. This event is weather dependent. Visit stoughtonma.myrec.com.
