More than 25 suspected child predators indicted across northeastern Oklahoma

In a crackdown on child predators, about a dozen law enforcement agencies in Green Country teamed up for what they called Operation Clean Sweep II.

They arrested 25 registered sex offenders who now face federal charges and they are still investigating others who could still be arrested.

The Broken Arrow Police Department is just one of more than twelve federal, state and Tribal law enforcement agencies that helped with the crackdown.

Operation Clean Sweep II is a team effort across 11 counties to ensure registered sex offenders are in compliance and are where they're supposed to be.

Agents knocked on doors and made phone calls as they looked for more than 525 offenders.

Clinton Johnson, a U.S. attorney, said this worked because so many agencies were involved.

"We can't do this alone so it takes a multi-jurisdictional approach to make sure we leverage our local, state, federal and Tribal partners to make sure this happens,” Johnson said.

This isn't the first time these agencies have teamed up.

Operation Clean Sweep I began in December of 2021 when 33 people faced federal charges.

Johnson said from 2021, when the first operation started, to 2023, there has been a 300% increase in reports of adults trying to entice children over the internet for sexual exploitation.

Johnson said the increase is because of social media and the pandemic.

"As social media becomes more and more part of our daily lives and as technology advances. It's also important to remember that we were going through a national pandemic in which a lot of people were shut in, inside their homes for a long period of time and people were reaching out towards others on the internet," Johnson said.

Johnson says if you're a parent and an adult is talking to your child inappropriately online or in person, make a report to the local FBI, police or Homeland Security.

If you or someone you know is a victim of child exploitation, confidential help is available. Resources and contact information for child exploitation are available through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children .
