Keith: Yankees have some issues, and it's not about stolen bases on Jose Trevino

As the Yankees get set for a huge series against the Orioles in the Bronx, Keith says the Yankees have some problems that have nothing to do with the nine stolen bases the Red Sox logged on Jose Trevino on Sunday night.

One of those issues being the struggles of DJ LeMahieu, who has given the Yanks next to nothing since returning from a displaced fracture in his foot.

“We’re not even getting half of DJ LeMahieu…he can’t even be a .250 guy,” Keith said. “We have some issues, Yankee fans, and it’s not about the stolen bases.”

Clay Holmes and his inability to get strikeouts has also been a talking point among Yankee fans as a potential issue come October, but Keith says the Yanks know the kind of pitcher Holmes is, and it’s on them to shore up the defense behind him and prepare for balls in play.

“Look at the infield defense,” Keith said. “If you’re gonna have a ground ball guy that pitches to contact, you better have athletic, smart, locked in defenders at every position behind him.”

After Sunday night, Trevino and limiting traffic on the basepaths has been thrust to center stage when it comes to Yankee concerns, but Keith looks at the offense after the Bombers loaded the bases with nobody out in that same game, and couldn’t cash in.

“You guys want to talk about the base stealing? How about getting on base and scoring some runs?” Keith said. “Basics of baseball. You can’t load the bases and not cash in.”
