The Yankees seemed to retaliate for Aaron Judge in the seventh inning of Wednesday’s loss to the Orioles, as Victor Gonzalez plunked Gunnar Henderson with the Yanks trailing 4-1 and Judge in the dugout with a sore hand from being plunked in Tuesday’s series opener.

Henderson stole second and came around to score, and the Yanks lost 7-6 in 10 innings. It could be argued that the HBP was the difference in the game, and both Boomer and Gio couldn’t understand the decision to plunk the O’s star in that spot.

“It’s just silly. These things are silly to me,” Gio said. “There are times where I feel like if your team is getting really beat up and smacked around…I didn’t feel like this was one of these times. We see guys getting hit all over the league, great players like Mookie Betts who are getting pitched up and in.

“Henderson of course gets on, steals a base, comes around to score, and you lose by one. Come on man, how necessary was that in the seventh inning?”

Boomer was equally confused by the decision, especially in a time where preventing more damage was of the utmost importance, and it was proven why immediately after, when Giancarlo Stanton’s three-run home run made it a 5-4 O’s lead, when the game could have been tied.

“You’re down 4-1. What are you doing?” Boomer said. “You don’t do it then. You don’t even need to do it.”
