New York Yankees centerfielder Aaron Judge could not have gotten off to a worse start in 2024. After games on May 2nd, he was ice cold, hitting under .200. His slash line was ugly, sitting at .197/.331/.393.

It really makes you think; what records would be in danger had Aaron Judge not started so slowly? Despite giving the rest of the league a five-week head start, he is now atop the MLB in several statistics.

Since May 4th, the New York Yankees star has been on a torrid pace at the plate. As shared by Jared Carrabis of Underdog Fantasy and MLB Network, Aaron Judge is lapping the rest of the league when it comes to production.

Per Carrabis, Aaron Judge has been hitting .394 since May 4th, which is 46 points higher than the next closest person. His OPS is 1.470, which is 381 points higher than second place. He has launched 24 home runs, which is six more than the next closest person.

Aaron Judge has 42 extra-base hits over that span, while the next closest has only 30. In total, he has 154 bases in just under 50 games played, which clears the second-place hitter by 36.

This recent scorching hot streak has Aaron Judge’s season slash line sitting at .309/.433/.712. The turnaround he has had over the last few weeks has put him back on track to be right in the MVP race.

Unfortunately for the New York Yankees, there isn’t much support for him in the lineup. Outside of Anthony Volpe and Juan Soto, the first and second hitters in the lineup ahead of Aaron Judge, no one else is hitting.

New York’s offense has gone ice cold, which has led to them giving up ground in the American League playoff picture. The Baltimore Orioles are only one game behind in the AL East race and the Cleveland Guardians have passed them for the best record in the AL.

Expect the New York Yankees to seek out some offensive upgrades ahead of the trade deadline. If not, there are going to be a lot of walks handed out to Soto and Aaron Judge as no one in the order behind them has proven capable of consistently taking advantage.
