NYU grad cyclist fatally struck by Bronx driver in New Jersey

A 22-year-old New York University graduate was killed in New Jersey after being run down from behind while riding his bicycle in New Jersey.

Damian Baranowski, a Port Jervis native raised in Pennsylvania, was hit by a 21-year-old driver from the Bronx, according to NJ.com .

The driver then struck a utility pole on Route 206 in Sussex County, which caused her Nissan to flip, leaving the motorist seriously injured Saturday afternoon. Radio station WRNJ identified her as Elizabeth Palacios Gotay.

Baranowski recently earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics, according to his obituary.

“Damian had a passion for exploring the outdoors through hiking, cycling, climbing, and swimming,” his obit says. “He also enjoyed golfing, watching sports, and camping.”

Baranowski’s mother remembered him as “ a beloved son , brother and friend to all” on Facebook. He’s survived by his parents and sister.

The victim be buried Wednesday morning in Milford, Penn. The cause of the crash, which happened near the Pennsylvania border in Sandyston N.J., is unclear.

Baranowski celebrated a birthday 10 days before his death.
