A man allegedly wielding a machete has been shot by an NYPD officer in the Bronx . The 24-year-old was gunned down shortly before 10.30pm on Wednesday, July 17 on the sixth floor of an apartment building in Mott Haven.

The alarm was raised when cops received a 911 call about a domestic incident at a home on Third Avenue. Officers rushed to the scene where they found the man holding a large machete .

The man was told to drop the weapon multiple times by police but refused to do so. As a result, the man was tasered, but unsuccessfully. Cops then struck the man in the left arm.

The man was taken to Lincoln Hospital where he is in stable condition. The man has one previous arrest, according to ABC7, and the investigation is looking into whether he has any previous domestic violence incidents on record.

The two officers assigned to the 40th Precinct were checked out at the hospital but were not injured. The shooting is under investigation by the NYPD's Force Investigation Division.
