NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) — Police arrested a 36-year-old man in the stabbing death of a bystander in a road-rage altercation in the Bronx earlier this month.

Clement Boateng was charged with murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, police responded to a 911 call of a man stabbed in front of 1809 Phelan Pl. in Morris Heights.

Upon arrival, officers observed 29-year-old Ronald Gomez-Mesa in front of the location who sustained a stab wound to the chest.

According to officials, two cars were involved in a minor crash that barely damaged the vehicles.

One of the drivers, a woman, called her boyfriend, Boateng, who showed up moments later and began punching uninvolved bystanders who had gathered at the scene, police said.

As some point during the chaotic encounter, Boateng pulled a knife and stabbed Gomez-Mesa in the chest, authorities said.

EMS transported Gomez-Mesa to Saint Barnabas Hospital where he was subsequently pronounced dead.
