Jasson Dominguez, the top prospect for the New York Yankees , could begin a rehab assignment this week as he works back from an oblique injury.

The 21-year-old switch-hitter has been on the injured list since the middle of June when he suffered an oblique injury on a check swing.

Manager Aaron Boone told reporters Tuesday that Dominguez took live batting practice and could return to game action this week at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

In 23 games this season, Dominguez had a .356 average and 1.013 OPS to go along with six home runs, 13 RBI and 53 total bases.

Dominguez made his MLB debut in 2023 during September and provided immediate hope that he can be an incredible asset to have in the outfield.

Though it was only across the small sample size of 31 at-bats, Dominguez hit four home runs and logged a .980 OPS.

Given the struggles of Alex Verdugo this season (82 OPS+), it wouldn't be a surprise if Dominguez was called up later in the season if those struggles persist going into September.

The Yankees also reportedly aren't ruling out the inclusion of Dominguez in a potential trade deadline deal, but it would have to be a massive haul for New York.
