More than 32,000 people have visited Brookhaven aquatic facilities this summer, making it a banner year for the city.

Brookhaven is home to Murphey Candler pool, Ashford Park splash pad, and the newest facilities – Lynwood Park pool and splash pad and Briarwood Park pool.  Two of the pools have swim teams – Murphey Candler Marlins and the Briarwood Barracudas.

“This is the first year all of our aquatics features are up and running,” said City Manager Christian Sigman.

There have been occasional closures. Ashford Park splash pad was undergoing repairs this summer, and Briarwood Park pool was closed for a few days last week due to an electrical issue which has been repaired.

Parks and Recreation Director Michael King attributed the successful season to the new aquatics manager, pool maintenance, and lifeguard contractor. Extended hours, few closures this year, and hot weather helped, King said.

“This is the biggest year for Brookhaven pools ever,” said King.

Brookhaven aquatics are on a modified schedule through Sept. 29, open only on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Murphey Candler will close for the season on Sept. 1, while the others are open through Sept. 29.

“Brookhaven pools have been the most popular attraction over the summer, and it is an investment in our community,” said Brookhaven City Councilmember Michael Diaz. “From movie nights to Doggie Dip Days, there is so much more for the community. I am elated for our successful season thus far and will continue to support our aquatics program with the resources that they need.”
