3rd annual Substance Use Addiction Summit set for July 19
ESSEX JUNCTION — Two St. Albans residents passionate about recovery from substance use are bringing people together to discuss life-saving solutions. Melinda White and Brad Ferland are the organizers behind “Coming Together,” a substance use addiction summit, set for Friday, July 19 at the Champlain Valley Exposition. The event is free and open to the public, no registration required. Attendees can come by anytime between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to listen to inspiring speakers, participate in workshops and connect with over 80 booths.
Brattleboro property tax rate to rise almost 8%
BRATTLEBORO-Property taxes will go up about 8% after the Selectboard voted unanimously July 9 to adopt the fiscal year 2025 property tax rate. THEATER REVIEW: ‘Native Gardens’ plays at the Dorset Theatre Festival through July 21
Dorset Theatre Festival in Dorset, Vt. Written by Karen Zacarías, directed by Tatyana-Marie Carlo. A good comedy is hard to find these days. This was the second one I saw in just a week. Unfortunately, there were so many errors in the Dorset Theatre production the effect of the show, which deals with ongoing social problems (a series of them), was weakened and the total effect was slightly less than satisfying. For instance, a tree on the set is constantly referred to as a very healthy oak, but the tree on stage was not an oak and its yellowed, frond-like leaves were not even remotely oak or healthy. Every time the tree is referred to, and my companion counted eight of them, a normal audience reaction was to look at the tree. It was very distracting being so peculiarly un-oak-like. Things like that can ruin a show.
