Filled with nostalgia for the flavors of their home country of Denmark, Sebastian Perez and Sebastian Bangsgaard opened the original Smør restaurant in the East Village in 2019. Now that Smør has been in business for five years, the two Sebastians, as they refer to themselves, are expanding this summer with a new location in Clinton Hill.

Although Smør Clinton Hill will be the second Smør restaurant , Perez and Bangsgaard opened Smør Bakery in 2022. Located a few doors down from the original restaurant on 12th Street, the bakery gives patrons the chance to dine in or take out fresh pastries, cakes and breads. This investment in the brand’s baked goods has supported Smør Catering for corporate events, films, and private gatherings.

Smør’s expansion to a second restaurant is a milestone for the brand. According to Eater New York , Smør Clinton Hill will function as a bakery during the day and serve small plates as a restaurant at dinner time. While the original Smør and Smør Bakery in Manhattan are housed in two separate spaces, it seems the bakery and restaurant operations in Brooklyn will be consolidated at the 18 Putnam Ave location.

Over the years, Smør in Manhattan has pleased crowds with a range of Nordic-inspired flavors for on-the-go breakfasts, sit-down lunches and casual dinners. Menu items include curried herring and smoked salmon smørrebrød dishes for brunch. Dinner options include hot dogs, trout noodles and the hangover sandwich featuring shredded beef, remoulade, pickles, braised cabbage and aioli. Smør’s drink list is filled with natural wines, cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages.

With this additional location, Perez and Bangsgaard will reach new audiences wanting to try Scandinavian-style sandwiches and Nordic pastries. What Now NY was unable to immediately connect with Smør for a comment about new menu items or details on the opening timeline for Smør Clinton Hill.
