Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest results: Who won the hot dog competition in 2024?

    By Sarah Effress,

A world record was shattered and a personal best was broken at this year's Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, Brooklyn. Eyes were on nine-time champion Miki Sudo for the women and Geoffrey Esper, the favorite for the men, and boy what a show it was.

This year's Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest brought a level of intrigue not seen in nearly a decade — that intrigue being the absence of Joey Chestnut. The 16-time champion did not participate in the competition due to his partnership with Impossible Foods.

On the women's side, Miki Sudo looked to defend her title won with 39.5 hot dogs last year. Her personal best was 48.5 hot dogs until she absolutely crushed that by smashing 51 hot dogs and buns in the ten minute time frame to take home her tenth belt and set a new world record, beating out her own.

The men's competition followed suit and for the first time in 17 years, there wasn't a clear cut favorite. The lead switched back and forth until Patrick Bertoletti finally jumped ahead and established his dominance. Soon, no one could catch him and the mustard belt was his to take home.

To read a full play-by-play of both competitions and some pre-game action, The Sporting News has you covered.
