Making fish in the privacy of your own home is good in theory, but when it’s all over and your apartment smells like seafood for a week, you’re going to realize you should have just gone to Greenpoint Fish & Lobster Co. The Greenpoint fish market doubles as a restaurant, with a few high-top tables and a bar inside, and a big seating area outside where groups sip micheladas, and a solo diner crushes a dozen oysters while their goldendoodle lazes on the concrete.

Come for a Wednesday date night at the bar with some peel-and-eat shrimp. Or spread out at a table for a lazy Saturday lunch, and share some shishito peppers with clam aioli, shrimp cocktail, and lobster rolls. Greenpoint Fish makes two versions—hot with butter and cold with mayo—and you should get both. Sure, this city is surrounded by water, but it’s not every day you find a well-stuffed lobster roll on a crisp, buttered bun here.

    Food Rundown

    Daily Crudo

As expected from a fish market restaurant, the crudo here is reliably fresh and extra cold—always doused in olive oil and sprinkled with flaky salt. Order it, especially if it’s over 80 degrees out.

    Shishito Peppers

Forget shishitos with aioli. Meet shishito peppers with clam aioli. The clam makes a world of difference.

    Lobster Roll

It’s hard to find a good lobster roll in this city. It’s even harder to find a good lobster roll that’s served warm with butter. Thankfully Greenpoint Fish has both butter and mayo options, and you can’t go wrong with either. Each is delightfully simple, with big chunks of fresh lobster meat. And they come with fries.

    Oysters

Your choice of West Coast or East Coast oysters (we go East Coast, show a little respect) should be slurped alongside several glasses of white wine, and maybe some fries.
