Nets signing former lottery pick Killian Hayes for possible guard depth

The Nets are taking a chance on a former lottery pick.

Killian Hayes, a point guard who was drafted seventh overall just four years ago, has agreed to join Brooklyn on a one-year, Exhibit 10 deal, a source told The Post — meaning it’s essentially a tryout contract.

The expectation is that he’ll compete for a roster spot in training camp, another source added.

Hayes worked out in front of the Nets, among other teams, recently in Las Vegas.

He was a free agent after a disappointing stint with the Pistons, who released him in February amid an ugly 14-win campaign.

Hayes, who turns 23 on Friday, struggled with his efficiency and 3-point shot, in particular, firing at a career 27.7 percent clip from beyond the arc.

Still, he offers size, defense and passing potential.

The rebuilding Pistons started Hayes in 145 games over four seasons after drafting him five spots ahead of Tyrese Haliburton.

Beginning in the middle of last season, Hayes started working individually with player development coach Adam Harrington, a former Nets assistant who assisted the ascension of Kevin Durant.

The Nets could use some depth at point guard behind projected starter Dennis Schroder, who is currently representing Germany in the Olympics.

Ben Simmons is also considered a point guard but isn’t reliable.

The other guards on guaranteed deals are Cam Thomas, Shake Milton and Keon Johnson.

The Nets had Dennis Smith Jr. as a backup point guard last season but he’s a free agent and unlikely to re-sign.

It’s possible Hayes fills that vacated role but he first has to make the team in October camp.
