Fireworks blamed for at least 1 Sacramento house fire in busy July 4th night for firefighters
SACRAMENTO – Firefighters around the Sacramento area had to deal with fire after fire overnight as Fourth of July celebrations raged into the early hours on Friday. At least one house fire was likely started by fireworks, officials say. Sacramento Fire crews responded to the 600 block of Piedmont Drive and found flames between two homes. Firefighters went to work quickly and were able to keep the flames from spreading inside the homes. No injuries were reported, but it's unclear how much damage was done by the fire. Sacramento Fire says fireworks were the likely cause of the Piedmont Drive incident. In Citrus Heights, Sacramento Metro Fire crews responded just before midnight Friday to a report of a heavy fire in a garage along Ebonywood Court.Everyone inside the Ebonywood Court home got out safely, firefighters say, and the flames were contained before they could spread to any other homes. Exactly what started the Ebonywood Court fire is still under investigation. Earlier in the night, officials said illegal fireworks were likely to blame for catching the roof of a middle school on fire in Sacramento.

Sacramento County stops water deliveries to homeless encampments
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento County is no longer delivering water to homeless encampments during what could become a historic heat wave. According to both the city and county of Sacramento, this was always going to happen . Sacramento County said water deliveries were always going to end, because they were funded by American Rescue Plan Dollars that no longer exist. The funds were part of a contract with SANE to distribute drinking water to encampments, as part of the COVID-19 public health crisis, for the last four years. 9 people displaced after 4-alarm fire spreads to several homes in Modesto
MODESTO – Several people have been displaced after a four-alarm fire that damaged several Modesto homes the morning after the Fourth of July. Modesto Fire says crews responded to the scene near Terminal and Coldwell avenues just after 5 a.m.Firefighters found that a home under construction had caught fire. Flames were also started to spread to buildings on both sides of the structure. The fire prompted a four-alarm response, Modesto Fire says. Units from Oakdale and Turlock were brought in to help.Crews were able to contain the flames, but not before a duplex and two other residences were affected by the fire.A total of nine people have been displaced, Modesto Fire says. The main structure that caught fire is believed to be a total loss, but officials have not detailed the extent of damage the other homes suffered. Firefighters say two people also had to be evaluated for injuries at the scene, but both refused treatment. Exactly what started the fire is still under investigation.
