Horton man convicted in Brown County District Court
A Horton man was convicted in the Brown County District Court for rape and aggravated kidnapping charges on Monday. Matthew Dean Harris, 21, was convicted of one count of Rape and one count of Aggravated Kidnapping, both which are level one person felonies, according to Brown County Attorney Kevin Hill.
NEK-CAP awarded Head Start grant
I am pleased to announce NEK-CAP, Inc., has been awarded the Early Head Start/Head Start grant for the next five years, renewable each year as a continuation grant. The grant application was fully funded and will be fully operational as proposed. Through the grant we will continue to provide high quality early childhood education and comprehensive services to children and families in nine northeast Kansas counties (Atchison, Brown, Doniphan, Jackson, Jefferson, Leavenworth, Marshall, Nemaha and Pottawatomie). The Early Head Start home-based program will serve 120 children and/or prenatal mothers, and the Head Start center-based program will serve 195 children.
