Brownsburg Man with “Long List of Criminal Offenses” Gets 22 Years in Prison

BROWNSBURG, Ind .–A man from Brownsburg was sentenced to 22 years in federal prison for being guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

42-year-old Jason Compliment is accused of selling three guns to a pawnshop in Indianapolis for $725 on July 16, 2022. Police say video surveillance footage shows him selling the funs and receiving the pawn ticket in his own name.

Compliment has a long list of prior criminal sentences, so he is not allowed to have a gun. Court documents say he has prior felony convictions for eight burglaries, resisting law enforcement, and possession of methamphetamine. In one case, police say Compliment burglarized a church and stole money meant for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption.

“The defendant’s long list of prior criminal sentences, ranging from probation to incarceration, have failed to deter him from continuing to illegally possess guns,” said Zachary A. Myers, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana. “He showed so little respect for the law he was even willing to sell the guns under his own name. Much of the gun violence inflicted on our communities is caused by individuals who are prohibited by law from having a firearm in the first place. Thanks to the work of the ATF, IMPD, and our federal prosecutors the public will be protected from this career criminal for years to come.”

After his 22-year sentence, Compliment will have five years of supervised release.

The Department of Justice says this is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
