A woman is accused of orchestrating a violent robbery in order to get rid of evidence of her infidelity, Texas officials say.

Deputies began investigating on the night of June 25, after two armed men reportedly stole another man’s phone at gunpoint in Brownsville, the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office said in a July 15 news release. The man told deputies that one of the suspects fired a shot into the ground to scare him and put a gun to his head while demanding he hand over his phone.

The suspects were identified as Juan Carlos Macias and Brian Rodriguez and arrested, according to deputies. One was caught the same day, while the other was arrested two days later, on June 27.

But the investigation wasn’t over yet.

Deputies discovered the men had been hired by someone else, a woman named Angelica Reyes.

Reyes “wanted the cell phone due to it containing proof of her infidelities,” the sheriff’s office said.

According to investigators, Reyes promised to pay the men $100 if they brought her the man’s phone.

A second woman, Jade Urenda was also arrested, the sheriff’s office said. While the entirety of her involvement isn’t clear, deputies said she is the sister of one of the accused robbers and contacted Reyes demanding the $100 owed to her brother, which Reyes agreed to pay.

Both women are facing charges of aggravated robbery and engaging in organized crime, the sheriff’s office said.

Brownsville is a roughly 350-mile drive south from Austin.
