The Remsen St. Mary’s baseball team ended their season as Class 1A state runner-up dropping Friday’s championship game with Lynnville-Sully by a score of 7-1. For a team that was not expected to make it this far, the achievement is very impressive and speaks to the toughness of the team. Head coach Dean Harpenau says that toughness showed all throughout the game.
Akron-Westfield Baseball’s historic season ends in the state semifinal round
The Akron-Westfield baseball team had their season end at the hands of Lynnville-Sully in the state semifinal late on Wednesday night by a score of 4-0. The loss ends the career of a group of Westerner seniors that went 5-10 as eighth graders. Head coach Gordon Johnson says spending all this time with this class has been rewarding.

CARROLL, Iowa (KCAU) – #1 Akron-Westfield’s quest for an IHSAA State Championship came to a halt at the hands of #4 Lynnville-Sully with a 4-0 loss in the 1A semifinal round. Westerners second baseman Hayden Wahlberg recorded three of the team’s five hits in the game. Akron-Westfield ends the season at 28-4 overall.
Remsen St. Mary’s Softball drops consolation matchup with No. 2 Wayne
The Remsen St. Mary’s softball team ended their season in a consolation matchup at the state tournament with a loss to No. 2 Wayne by a score of 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon. The Hawks gave up a couple of big innings early on to the tune of two Wayne runs in the first and six Wayne runs in the third. Remsen St. Mary’s head coach Monte Harpenau says he knew that the Falcons were capable of big innings.
RSM softball seniors play one final time in consolation game
FORT DODGE — The Remsen St. Mary’s softball team wrapped up their season Wednesday in a consolation round game against Wayne. The Falcons (25-5), who entered the Class 1A tournament as the No. 2 seed, beat the third-seeded Hawks (23-2) by a score of 8-1. The game was a bit of a changing of the guard moment for the RSM program as the team’s six seniors got to play one final game, but head coach Monte Harpenau also wanted to give his younger players some state tournament experience, subbing different players in and out, to help them get a head-start on next season.
