    2024-06-21

BRYAN — A Bryan man was sentenced to prison here in Williams County Common Pleas Court on two charges that were part of an attempted murder indictment.

Jacob Pettit, 39, was given a 47-month prison term on charges of strangulation, a third-degree felony; and domestic violence, a fourth-degree felony. He also was fined $1,250 and given credit for 85 days served in the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio while his case was pending.

A charge of attempted murder, a first-degree felony; and one count of strangulation, a second-degree felony, were dismissed as part of the plea agreement between Williams County Prosecutor Katie Zartman’s office and Pettit’s attorney, Ryan Parker of Toledo.

A March grand jury indictment had alleged that on Feb. 3 Pettit attempted to cause the death of another person, and caused serious physical harm and the substantial risk of such harm through strangulation.

The domestic violence charge alleged that he caused, or attempted to cause, physical harm to a family or household member, having been convicted previously of domestic violence.
