Cernosek, who has spent most of her coaching career in Frisco, Graham and Krum, will be taking over as head volleyball coach at Bryson this fall. Cernosek, who will be teaching physical education and credit recovery classes, has coached softball, basketball and tennis during her career. She spent six years at Graham, where she coached tennis, before leaving last year for Krum ISD. In Bryson, Cernosek will also be the girls assistant basketball coach and work with softball, if there is a team in the spring. She said she is pumped to move to Bryson. During recent sports camps, Cernosek said she enjoyed meeting the kids and parents. She has had parents willing to help out during camps and come by and introduce themselves as she was moving into her new home. “There’s nothing like working in a small town,” Cernosek said. “The people are friendly, they’re more willing to help you out in a pinch. The kids on the teams are more like a second family and there’s definitely more of a connection with them.” Cernosek said building connections and a trust with the players is paramount to having any kind of success. “Every kid needs to be coached differently,” Cernosek said. “I’m very patient and a little different than most coaches. I want to take the time and explain and try to break down what they’re doing wrong. I want us to have a foundation as a team that we can build off of.” Cernosek says she’s very firm and structured in her coaching and what she wants to see. “The player’s attention span can be minimal,” Cernosek said. “They want you to tell them what you want and expect to be good right then and there, and it’s not like that. You have to work with them in little bites to ensure they’re understanding what you want from them. They need to put in the time and effort to be good. It’s not going to happen overnight.”
