City of Hazard celebrates Independence Day
HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Perry County celebrated Independence Day in true small-town fashion, starting with a fish fry. Mayor of Hazard, Happy Mobelini said city staff does not take a break for this holiday. “Our Fire Department have been cooking since 6 o’clock this morning.” Mobelini said. “The City of Hazard is not off on the Fourth of July.”

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — From parades to neighborhood festivals, Independence Day celebrations took place on both sides of the Ohio River on Thursday. Operation C.A.R.E. stands for Crash Awareness Reduction Effort, a national initiative aimed at focusing law enforcement’s attention on traffic violations. This includes speeding, failure to wear seatbelts, impaired/distracted driving, and commercial vehicle enforcement.
Kentucky, Indiana Counties on Alert for Severe Thunderstorms Until 7 PM
Louisville, KY – A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for parts of northern and northeastern Kentucky until 7 p.m. today. According to the US National Weather Service Wilmington, OH, the watch encompasses major cities including Louisville, Lexington, and Elizabethtown. Several counties in southern Indiana, such as Clark, Floyd, and Harrison, are also under the watch. The advisory warns of potential tornadoes, isolated hail up to quarter size, and scattered wind gusts reaching up to 70 mph.

Tracking midday and afternoon strong storm chances for Independence Day
LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy 4th of July! We are tracking some rain and storm chances as we head into your late morning and afternoon hours today. It won’t be a complete washout today, but have the rain gear handy. The best chance to see rain will be during your late morning and afternoon hours. It’s also going to feel very muggy outside through the day. Intermittent heavy downpours will be possible with any of the storms that go up due to all of that heat and moisture. There is also a severe risk out for all of central and eastern Kentucky. The Storm Prediction Center has added a Level 2 Severe Risk along and north of I-64 and the Bluegrass Parkway. A Level 1 Severe Risk remains in place for the rest of the area. The main severe weather threat will be isolated damaging wind gusts. There is also a quick spin-up tornado threat. It’s again on the lower end, but there could be some rotation that may spark a few warnings. Make sure you are staying Weather Aware throughout the day!
