Cheektowaga plaza sells for $18.5M
A Cheektowaga Plaza has sold for $18.5 million in one of Erie County's biggest real estate deals of 2024.<\p> G&I IX Empire Plaza sold six parcels totaling about 43 acres at 50-950 Thruway Plaza Drive to Equity Holdings of Cheektowaga LLC, a company registered in White Plains, Westchester County.<\p>
After two failed auctions, hospital goes back on the market
After failing to attract an acceptable offer at two auctions, the former Eastern Niagara Hospital is back on the market with a reduced asking price of $1.9 million.<\p> The hospital at 521 East Ave. in Lockport had returned to the auction block in early June with a minimum starting bid of $500,000. That followed an initial auction in April. Offers at both were rejected by a court-appointed receiver working with Citizens Bank, the main creditor.<\p>

The owner of Buffalo Pharmacies has sold his company's building at 1479 Kensington Ave., Buffalo, to the owner of the connected plaza, though the company will continue to operate at the site.<\p> Until last year, the building housed a retail pharmacy, a medical equipment store and the headquarters of Happier at Home, an in-home senior care provider.<\p>

Univera lands Highmark client, adds 26,000 members
Univera Healthcare will see its membership grow by another 26,000 members with the addition of a major new contract – pushing its total Western New York membership up over 100,000.<\p> The health plan confirmed it has signed Labor Management Healthcare Fund for the 2025 plan year, a group that includes employees of more than a dozen governmental, public entity and quasi-governmental agencies across Western New York, including several school districts; Erie County; the City of Dunkirk; the towns of Orchard Park, West Seneca and Clarence; and Erie County Medical Center, a public benefit corporation. <\p>
Northtowns street lands 3rd million-dollar home sale this year

Revenue has surged at Buffalo's country clubs; see which set the pace
Private clubs across the Buffalo region have grown their revenue by nearly 25% since 2019, with country clubs showing the biggest increases. <\p> Those revenue jumps are tied not only to increases in membership, but also in membership fees, which have increased as the result of capital projects and rising costs for supplies and labor driven by inflation over a three-year period.<\p>
ValueCentric founder buys 21 acres in Orchard Park
Those looking to live or play in Orchard Park are going to have more options.<\p> That’s David Janca’s goal for the nearly 21 acres of land he recently purchased, through an LLC, for $2.2 million from Merle Whitehead Properties LLC. The sale includes 3960, 3970, and 3980 North Buffalo Road, Orchard Park, which are a mix of vacant residential and commercial properties, according to July 8 filings with the Erie County clerk’s office.<\p>
CVS to close a Hamburg location
CVS Pharmacy is closing a Hamburg location this month.<\p> The Woonsocket, Rhode Island-based retailer is shuttering its site at 358 Buffalo St., Hamburg on July 23. The site’s employees are being offered comparable roles within CVS, according to a spokesperson. Prescriptions will be transferred to the CVS at 7182 Boston State Road, Hamburg, which is four miles from the closing site.<\p>
University wants $24.7M from insurer to rebuild after blizzard damage
Canisius University has asked a court to appoint a mediator in a dispute with its insurance company that dates back to the Christmas blizzard of 2022.<\p> The three-day blizzard caused significant damage to Lyons Hall, along with other parts of the campus, according to documents filed by Canisius on July 1 in New York State Supreme Court in Erie County. <\p>
Catholic Health recruits top Kaleida Health exec to C-level post
Catholic Health has recruited a top executive from Kaleida Health as its new chief physician executive.<\p> Dr. Victor Filadora will leave his post as senior vice president at Kaleida Health and president of Great Lakes Cancer Care. He took that position five years ago after a 15-year career with Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, where he last served as senior vice president and chief of clinical services.<\p>
New golf club owner talks plans for the Grand Island site
River Oaks Golf Club and its 191-acre property got a new owner this year — and he's got plans for the property.<\p> Benjamin Neustadt, through an LLC based in Lakewood, New Jersey, bought 201 Whitehaven Road, Grand Island, for $2.8 million in April. In another deal as part of the portfolio sale, he also, through an LLC, purchased the onsite River Oaks Golf Club for about $1 million, according to Neustadt.<\p>
