BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Multiple Buffalo parks suffered damage on Thursday as residents celebrated the Fourth of July holiday, city officials announced.

Officials said two baseball diamonds, one at Cazenovia Park and another at Riverside Park, were damaged by fireworks being lit off, with parts of the infield at both getting burnt. Repairs at each of the fields were taking place Friday.

Additionally, a large amount of debris was left behind around the Centennial splash pad at Ralph C. Wilson Park, causing the water attraction’s opening time to be delayed Friday amid clean-up efforts, according to officials.

Garbage totes were also found burned at Shoshone Park, which officials believe was the result of fireworks.

Officials reminded residents to be respectful of the parks and to clean up after themselves. The damage at the parks is still being evaluated.
