Buffalo, NY (WBEN) Buffalo Police are trying a new method to get people to come forward in homicide investigations. Police are putting up billboards and talking to loved ones of victims, starting with a 14 year old gunned down in May.

Buffalo Police put up a billboard seeking information about Jazzmine Fomby’s death. Fomby was fatally wounded on May 4, 2024 on Alexander Place, as dozens of teens were leaving a party being broken up. The billboard is at Michigan and Cherry, offering a $7,500 reward for information leading to an arrest.

Police have also interviewed Jazzmine’s family members and will be releasing video of them as they describe Jazzmine and what they miss most about her, while urging anyone with information about her murder to speak up about what they saw. Buffalo Police say they will share testimonial videos of family members of other homicide victims.

Mayor Byron W. Brown stated, “Today, we’re calling on the public to help us with unsolved homicides, including the recent fatal shooting of Jazzmine Fomby. It’s our hope that when people look up at this first in a series of billboards, and see Jazzmine, they also pick up their phone and pass along information to advance or solve this crime. I want to thank Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia and the Buffalo Police Department for their continued compassion and resolve, and for working with the family members of homicide victims who continue to look for answers in their search for justice.”

Police Commissioner Joseph A. Gramaglia added, "We know that this murder occurred in front of several witnesses, and we need them to come forward and speak up. Jazzmine was a 14 year old girl struck down by witnesses, and we need them to come forward and speak up. Jazzmine was a 14 year old girl struck down by we started the homicide victim family testimonial. The Buffalo Police Department will do everything we can to find the truth and bring justice to those accountable.”
