Bills training camp is just a few days away. To get you ready, we will preview one position group each day between now and the first practice at St. John Fisher. We’ll break down each position’s strengths, weaknesses and what single player or factor will most swing the outlook of that spot for 2024.

Today we will focus on tight ends. If you missed any of our other previews, here is where you can catch up: quarterbacks , wide receivers , running backs , offensive line .

    Strength: Big-play ability

This starts with Dalton Kincaid, who Bills fans hope was only scratching the surface of what he can do before and after the catch.

But don’t forget about Dawson Knox, who has proven plenty capable of chunk catches and making tacklers miss.

Quintin Morris has two touchdowns and seven first downs on only 10 career receptions. Keep an eye out for 6’7″ Zach Davidson, who had an eye-opening spring.

    Weakness: Blocking

This is mostly a Kincaid item, because he’s likely to get the most snaps this season.

He did get better late in the season, however, mainly because getting worse would be more difficult.

Knox is decent but not spectacular, and Morris is average. There’s a reason Buffalo uses a healthy dosage of formations with an extra lineman.

    X-Factor: The Year Two Jump

Kincaid had a pretty good rookie year. But as a first-rounder that Buffalo traded up to get, more is expected– certainly at least hoped.

His route tree expanded in the latter part of last year. It became more intermediate and there were more deep shots. The natural progression of a young player should mean more production.

But will Kincaid be just a dependable tight end this year, or will we see him dominant? As a top-three pass-catching weapon, anything from one end to the other seems reasonable.
