PITTSFORD, N.Y. (WROC) — It’s easy to tell when Keon Coleman enters practice or starts signing autographs.

There are big cheers and kids shouting out his name at all times on the campus of St. John Fisher University for Bills training camp.

Buffalo’s top draft pick has quickly captured the hearts of Bills Mafia and is hungry to have that praise be deserved on Sundays.

“I’m grateful,” said Coleman on Friday. “I’m grateful to be a fan-favorite. I’m just hoping to come out there and put on a show for them, execute, and do my job on the field.”

The Bills are hoping that Coleman can be their WR1 of the future. So far, the first steps have been promising.

“As spring went on I saw him start to get more and more comfortable,” said Bills head coach Sean McDermott. “I saw Josh [Allen] spending more and more time with him, being intentional about that and buliding that rapport and chemistry. Then I saw him really starting to win some of those one-on-ones that happen from time-to-time at his position.”

After three days at camp, Coleman and Allen have shown a strong connection, as they get to know each other on, and off the field.

“He’s probably more goofy than me,” said Coleman of Allen. “He’s like a big kid, loves to have fun. But when it’s time to get on the field, we’re going to work.”

Rookies in the past have compared adjusting to the NFL and learning a pro playbook to drinking water out of a fire hose. Coleman says he hasn’t had that problem so far.

“I’ve been studying, simple as that,” said Coleman. “I pretty much know what’s going on so I’m confident that I’m going to know what’s going on when I hear the calls, get the calls, and I’m going to line up and do my job.”

“I think you can see the work that he put in the last month,” said Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady. “It was important to him not just to get away and just enjoy him summer. He took it upon himself to make sure he’s still working on his craft. I think that kind of just shows who he is.”

Coleman enjoys spending time in the dorms with his teammates. His favorite game to play? Well he doesn’t actually play, his game is talking trash from the sidelines while everone else competes.
