Keon Coleman Could Make Josh Allen Forget All About Stefon Diggs

It wasn't a huge surprise when the Buffalo Bills traded star wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans, but it did leave one the AFC's top contenders without a clear No. 1 target for their franchise quarterback, Josh Allen.

Instead of taking the fastest man in NFL Scouting Combine history, the Bills traded down with the Kansas City Chiefs in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft, and let their postseason nemesis take Xavier Worthy out of Texas instead.

But after moving out of the first round entirely, it looks like the Bills were still able to find a worthy replacement for Diggs, albeit with a much different skill set.

Keon Coleman is a big, physical receiver with impressive athleticism for his size. After transferring from Michigan State, Coleman showed the ability to dominate opposing defense backs, take over games, and make highlight-reel catches.

This year's historically deep receiver class pushed Coleman out of the first round, but the Bills were happy to stop his fall, and now might have a new star pass-catcher for Allen to maximize.

If the early returns from training camp are any indication, the connection between Allen and Coleman could make a big impact from Day 1:

Coleman may not have Diggs’ short-area quickness or polished route-running ability just yet, but he also has size and physicality that Diggs couldn’t bring to the table. Allen also has other receivers who should be able to win with quickness and route-running chops (Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel). Tight end Dalton Kincaid will also be a huge part of the passing game again this year.

But what the Bills' franchise passer needed was a No. 1 receiver who could dominate at the catch point regardless of coverage, win contested-catch situations (especially in the red zone), and bring limitless upside on a cheap rookie contract.

It looks like all of those boxes have been checked with Coleman, and the sky's the limit for what this tandem can achieve in Buffalo.
